Cable Panel Approves Minutes, Reviews Budget

Cable Advisory Committee · Meeting of September 17, 2026

Groton's Cable Advisory Committee approved August 26 minutes and heard that franchise revenue has fallen sharply as a new Town Meeting dashboard nears launch. A staff member identified as Ashley told the committee the town's information technology department will roll out an online dashboard linking video of Select Board and Planning Board hearings to specific Town Meeting warrant articles ahead of the October 3 session. Ashley reported Groton Channel now receives roughly $25,000 per quarter from Verizon and $7,000 to $8,000 from Charter Spectrum, down from a historical peak of $170,000 a year.

"We're just seeing funding go down and there's nothing backing it up to supplement that funding," Ashley said. The committee also reviewed recent purchases totaling $767.96 for a captioning laptop setup and $309.13 for promotional pens, and voted 5-0 to adjourn.
