Groton's Historic Districts Commission said it holds final say over any Main Street redesign, pushing back on a traffic consultant's plan for up to three new signals. Chair Brian Cartier said the board is "insisting at a seating table for any future discussion" on the MDM Transportation Consultants study, which found roughly 60 percent of Main Street traffic just passes through. The commission also unanimously approved five certificates of appropriateness, including a $1.4 million Groton Housing Authority accessibility project on Lowell Road featuring new ADA doors, an elevator and a generator, and a detached accessory dwelling unit at the historic Hicks estate on Farmers Row, with member Lisa Hicks recusing herself as an applicant.
A separate approval cleared a cedar fence at 247 Main Street after a prior vinyl fence was found noncompliant.
