Park Commission · Meeting of August 24, 2026

Groton's Park Commission voted to have Jack Petropoulos draft a backup Community Preservation Act application for the 2027 Spring Town Meeting, a contingency if the Cow Pond parking and access project fails at the Oct. 3 Fall Town Meeting. Petropoulos said the commission could seek "about $4 million for parking and access roads and playgrounds." In a separate 3-2 vote, members rejected a draft general operations policy Chair Mary Jennings had assembled from months of straw-poll edits, leaving it a working document. Baseball representative Anthony Lopez told the board a piece of metal is protruding near second base at Alvin P. Sawyer Field, and that Town Field's infield remains "hard-packed" and weedy ahead of fall games.

The commission also learned no one, including the Department of Public Works, holds the access codes for Cow Pond's athletic field lights.
