Park Commission · Meeting of June 8, 2026

GROTON — The Groton Park Commission learned a Conservation Commission enforcement order could force locked gates on the Cow Pond baseball field access road, tied to a 2009 agreement the town has not consistently followed. Members discussed reviving a roughly $4 million field renovation that failed to reach the required Town Meeting supermajority in the spring, weighing a scaled-down plan or a stand-alone $1.5 million parking lot that would lose CPA grant eligibility. "The access road to the baseball field will be closed unless there's some way around this from national heritage," one member said.

The commission separately voted unanimously to stop issuing gazebo permits for the rest of the year after fence damage, approved a Groton Garden Club memorial plaque pending DPW sign-off, and seated write-in candidate Jack Petropoulos as a new member. The commission also authorized spending its remaining $11,912 in fiscal 2026 parks funds on playground and field repairs.
