The Groton Conservation Commission rejected a conservation restriction for the Shepley Hill subdivision over wooden boundary markers.
Conservation Commission · Meeting of April 14, 2026
GROTON — The Groton Conservation Commission rejected a conservation restriction for the Shepley Hill subdivision over wooden boundary markers. Commissioners voted unanimously against accepting the restriction after the Planning Board allowed a developer to substitute wooden posts for the granite bounds the board had requested, with member Olin Lathrop saying "I don't know how on earth we're going to monitor this." The commission also voted 0-5 against taking an official position on a Town Meeting warrant article to repair the Squannacook River Dam, with member Peter A. Morrison warning there's "too much at stake downstream if the dam fails." Commissioners separately fined the owner of 309 Boston Road $300 for ignoring a wetlands enforcement order, and split 3-2 in a nonbinding vote on handling unpermitted buffer-zone clearing at 16 West Main Street as an amendment rather than a new filing.
