Conservation Commission · Meeting of January 13, 2026
GROTON — The Groton Conservation Commission voted 6-0 to require a full wetlands permit for unauthorized fill dumped in the buffer zone at 101 Longley Road. Members estimated 50 to 100 yards of debris-laden "tailings" had been placed within the 100-foot buffer, prompting member Olin Lathrop to say the material included "all kinds of material that's not appropriate for this very sensitive area." Separately, the board voted 5-0, with Ben Wolfe recused, to issue a certificate of compliance for a disputed meadow restoration at 210 Indian Hill Road, with clerk Kimberly Kuliesis noting the mowed field looked like "a monoculture traditional lawn" rather than native habitat. The commission also continued hearings on a 26 Indian Hill Road addition, a 70 Dale Lane home, a Squanacook River Dam study and the Hollingsworth and Vose landfill closure to January 27, and voted to investigate a possible Fitch's Bridge Road land swap with farmer Gary Wilkins.
