Community Preservation Committee · Meeting of March 30, 2026
GROTON — The Community Preservation Committee recommended $133,000 from its historic preservation reserve for the West Groton dam repair. Members first accepted the application out of cycle and found it historic preservation and repair, not maintenance, despite a Community Preservation Coalition letter warning against funding maintenance and emergencies. Mark, presenting for the town, said eight sealed bids ranged from about $500,000 to $1.4 million and the project totals $812,500.
The town would bond the remaining $679,500, and the committee would commit $45,000 a year to debt service over 10 years. Some members objected that the pledge was "a handshake deal." The recommendation passed 5-1 with one abstention.
