GROTON — The Complete Streets Committee reviewed a consultant's preliminary Main Street redesign featuring a new traffic signal and corridor-long bike lane. Member Brian Callahan called engineering firm MDM "probably one of the best engineering companies that I've seen since I've been around," while member Takashi Tada said a signal at Route 40/119 "is warranted" because "the numbers justify it." The firm ruled out a rotary there, citing the need to demolish houses, and proposed an 11-foot travel lane with a roughly seven-foot bike lane townwide. Member Peter Cunningham confirmed the project needs Select Board approval, not a Town Meeting vote.
Separately, Callahan estimated engineering and construction for a rail trail connector to Groton Hill Music Center at about $20,000, offset by a possible $10,000 donation, while member Gordon D. Row agreed to approach Groton Hill staff about funding. No votes were taken on either project.
