GROTON — The Groton Planning Board voted unanimously to continue a hearing on the town's third battery storage system after raising radio-interference and tower-safety questions. General Manager John Patterson said Groton Electric Light Department's first two batteries have saved ratepayers about $700,000 over 25 months, and the new 600 Cow Pond Brook Road project, built with LightShift Energy, would add up to four megawatts. Vice Chair Paul Hathaway flagged sensitivity near the MIT Haystack Observatory, noting "you can't get a Starlink dish legally" in parts of Groton.
The hearing was continued to October 22. Separately, the board approved a modification letter for a used-car dealership at 14 Town Line Road and finalized a special permit decision for a shared driveway at Casella Meadows on Wyman Road, 5-0 with one abstention. Members also debated a draft Main Street corridor study proposing roughly $8.5 million in intersection work, with comments due to the town by November 2.
