Select Board adopts FY28 override guidance
Groton's Select Board unanimously adopted fiscal year 2028 budget guidance directing the town manager to prepare a balanced budget plus three tiered Proposition 2½ override options.
Select Board · Meeting of October 26, 2026
Groton's Select Board unanimously adopted fiscal year 2028 budget guidance directing the town manager to prepare a balanced budget plus three tiered Proposition 2½ override options. Town Manager Mark told the board and Finance Committee the town faces a $2.163 million deficit, driven partly by a projected $2.7 million, 9.24 percent rise in the Groton-Dunstable Regional School District assessment. The three override tiers, worth $6.4 million, $7.9 million and $8.5 million over three years, would raise first-year tax bills by $563, $898 or $1,050, respectively.
Vice Chair Rebecca "Becky" Pine said she felt "a little bit dispirited" that a $6 million override "all it does is maintain level services." School Committee Chair Lacey McCabe proposed a memorandum of understanding committing any surprise state aid to reducing the override rather than new spending. The Select Board will not formally call for the override until after the school committee certifies its budget around March 10, 2027.
