A revised plan to improve the town's playing fields at Cal Pond Brook Road is being prepared for resubmission as officials sort out how much of a scope reduction it will need to reach a fall Town Meeting vote.

GROTON --

TOWN -- The Groton Conservation Commission kept open a public hearing July 28 on a notice of intent filed by the Town of Groton for improvements to the playing fields at 599 Cal Pond Brook Road, Parcel 248-47, calling the session a placeholder while a new design is finalized. Commissioners said the town intends to resubmit a plan and will have to determine whether the changes qualify as a minor amendment to the existing filing or require an entirely new one. Members noted the project also needs a "major reduction in scope" before the Community Preservation Committee will recommend it to fall Town Meeting; the CPC agreed Monday to accept an out-of-cycle application on the project from the town manager. Conservation commissioners said they would be willing to consider taking a public position on the fields project ahead of Town Meeting, but only once the current notice of intent is closed or withdrawn, saying it would be inappropriate for the board to weigh in while the filing remains open.
