Groton-Dunstable Regional School Committee outlined a possible multiyear tax override to close a structural budget gap. Superintendent Dr. Bruno and district staffer Sherry told the committee the district could face cutting $2 million to $2.5 million and as many as 20 positions if Groton and Dunstable voters do not approve new revenue, on top of more than 40 positions already eliminated over the last four budget cycles.
Dunstable's required assessment increase would run roughly 9.2 percent; Groton's would run 8 to 9 percent. Chair Lacey McCabe said the superintendent's full fiscal 2028 budget proposal comes to the committee Nov. 18. Member Rosanna questioned whether classroom grades "are a true representation" of student skills after MCAS data showed district scores trending down alongside the state's.
The committee also approved a $1,942,548.10 warrant and declared outdated phonics kits and history texts as surplus.
