Schools OK budget guidance, weigh arrest policy

School Committee · Meeting of September 23, 2026

Groton-Dunstable reviews policy barring civil arrests on school grounds. Dr. Bruno presented a first read of a policy implementing the state's new PROTECT Act, which bars civil immigration arrests on campus during school hours; no vote was taken pending a second read.

Members pressed on how the procedures mesh with existing student-records language, with one asking, "Are we ensuring the safety? Do they not get to take the student until a parent is here?" The School Committee separately approved its FY28 budget guidance and a warrant of $4,627,226.70, covering a $2,887,108.60 payroll warrant and $1,740,118.20 in vendor warrants, both without recorded opposition. Student representatives reported the high school earned Special Olympics' National Banner Recognition again and that 60 clubs took part in its September 16 club fair.
