Groton Board of Health Issues Wood-Waste Violation Against West Main Street Property

GROTON — June 1, 2026 — Groton's Board of Health voted unanimously to issue a wood-waste violation against the owner of 65 West Main Street and to pursue bank enforcement at a distressed Schoolhouse Road property. The June 1 meeting produced five unanimous votes, including the issuance of a violation under Chapter 332 of the town's wood-waste bylaw against 65 West Main Street — an eight-acre parcel where three abutters told the board they witnessed trees, stumps, and brush being buried — and a directive to work with Building Commissioner Chris Rogers to formally warn the bank holding 112 Schoolhouse Road that failure to board and secure the unoccupied, wildlife-infested property may result in fines or court action. The board also opened discussion on expanding the bylaw's single-sentence definition of wood-waste disposal, aiming to have a draft ready for the June 15 meeting and a public hearing in August. Michelle was elected board chair and Evan vice chair, both unanimously.
