Groton Select Board Sets October 3 Town Meeting, Appoints Two Committee Members

GROTON — July 13, 2026 — Groton Select Board compresses fall town meeting calendar to October 3 to avoid early-voting conflict. The board voted unanimously to call the 2026 fall town meeting for Saturday, October 3, beginning at 9 a.m., with the warrant closing August 13 — roughly two weeks earlier than a standard schedule. Town Manager Mark Haddad warned that fiscal year 2028 will be "a very difficult year," with projected new revenue of about $1.3 million against $2.7 million in anticipated school district increases and $865,000 in municipal cost growth; the state conference committee delivered only $37,000 in additional unrestricted aid. In a joint session, the Select Board and Groton school committee members unanimously appointed Rebecca Wexner, a clinical and educational psychologist and former school committee member, to fill a vacancy on the Groton-Dunstable Regional School District Committee through the 2027 election. The Finance Committee Appointment Committee separately appointed Nancy Muller, a retired nonprofit executive with a PhD in health services research, to a three-year Finance Committee term through June 30, 2029, and reappointed Scott Whitfield to the same body. The Select Board and Finance Committee jointly authorized $309,808 in fiscal year 2026 line-item transfers, with the country club accounting for $48,000 of the increase since June and a $136,000 health insurance surplus providing the largest offset.
