Groton-Dunstable School Committee awards $4.9M bus contract, backs Swallow Union roof

GROTON — May 27, 2026 — Groton-Dunstable School Committee awards a nearly $5 million bus contract and taps its entire Capital Stabilization Fund for a state-assisted roof project. The committee voted unanimously Wednesday to award D-Bus Service Inc. the FY2027-2029 K-12 transportation contract at $4,988,700, a 4.88 percent first-year increase, after only one of four pre-bid attendees submitted a response. Director of Finance and Operations Sherry Kersey also secured unanimous approval to appropriate the fund's full $150,000 balance for schematic design costs at Swallow Union Elementary School under the Massachusetts School Building Authority's Accelerated Repair Program, with a June 1 filing deadline leaving no alternative funding path. A separate vote directs any MSBA reimbursements back into the fund. The committee also reelected Lacey McCabe as chair — and voted unanimously to support state action converting her one-year Dunstable appointment, the result of a ballot error, to a full three-year term — while approving Superintendent Dr. Bruno's annual evaluation with ratings of proficient in three performance areas and exemplary in professional culture.
