GROTON — The Groton Select Board voted unanimously to back a $4.1 million to $4.3 million renovation of the Cow Pond Brook fields, directing Town Manager Mark to send a letter of support to the Community Preservation Committee. Park Commissioner Anna Elliott and Activitas engineer Megan Brzezinski presented a plan adding roughly 150 parking spaces, a third entrance and an accessible walking trail, aided by a $1 million federal grant. Mark said the project would cost the CPC about $300,000 a year out of the $1.3 million it collects annually.
Select Board member Rebecca Pine warned it would be "a hard sell for the town to vote for it" and pushed to scale back the playground and use an unpaved stone-dust trail to cut costs. The board also voted 5-0 to grant an off-premise wine and beer license to Welcome Home Furnishings and Decor LLC on West Main Street, with hours capped at 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
