Select Board · Meeting of March 23, 2026
GROTON — The Groton Select Board previewed a $812,000 plan to repair the Squannacook River Dam ahead of a possible May 19 debt exclusion vote. The town manager recommended repair over removal, citing a cost of $1.7 million to $2 million to remove the structure versus the $812,000 repair bid, and said town meeting must approve borrowing by a two-thirds vote. The board also opted into early voting for the May 19 election and approved a one-day wine license for the Friends of Prescott.
Separately, the town manager said the proposed school assessment could rise by $2.2 million, far above the $1.2 million the town is budgeting, and said he will testify before the Legislature's Ways and Means Committee on Chapter 70 funding. The Destination Groton Committee urged the board to create a new Town Center Vision Commission, calling its report "a call for action."
