Park Commission · Meeting of March 23, 2026

GROTON — The Park Commission pressed for answers on why Alvin Sawyer Field was seeded over. A youth baseball representative said 160 children are ready to play and told members "we can't use it this year," seeking a fix by spring 2027. Members said they had not seen the contract, which was carried out by Larson as a subcontractor to Catawba, and the town manager reportedly said undoing the seeding would void the new field's warranty.

The commission took no vote on the field but planned a meeting with the town manager and any working group members. It approved a Cutler Field youth softball request for April 6 to June 26 and heard that Groton's share of the $4.2 million Cow Pond Field project is about $2.56 million.
