Planning Board Approves Casella Meadows Subdivision
Groton's Planning Board voted 6-0 to approve the Casella Meadows special permit on Wyman Road.
Planning Board · Meeting of March 12, 2026
Groton's Planning Board voted 6-0 to approve the Casella Meadows special permit on Wyman Road. The flexible development plan from Neshoba Homes Development LLC places six single-family homes on seven and a half acres while putting 15.3 acres into permanent open space with a trail link to 119 acres of adjoining town conservation land. Developer Jim Casella, whose family owned the land 70 years, said he wanted "to do what's right" for his family and neighbors.
Board member Russell Burke dissented in spirit, arguing a conventional layout could still yield six lots and calling the flexible plan inferior, but was outvoted. Conservation Commission member Olin Lightfoot called it "far superior" for keeping construction away from vernal pools. The board also unanimously closed hearings on the Cow Pond Brook fields project and a new MIT Lincoln Laboratory radio dish on Millstone Road.
