GROTON — The Groton-Dunstable Regional School Committee voted to authorize a Statement of Interest filing with the Massachusetts School Building Authority for repairs at Swallow Union Elementary School. Director of Business and Finance Sherry said the filing, due within days, carries no financial commitment but is needed to pursue state funding for an aging pneumatic heating system, drafty windows and limited accessibility at the Dunstable school. The resolution also noted the district envisions an early childhood center there to address a waitlist for Groton-Dunstable preschool seats.
The committee separately voted unanimously to open 10 school choice seats for incoming ninth and tenth graders for 2026-27, the same policy as last year, and approved a $612,766.45 vendor warrant by roll call. Superintendent Dr. Bruno said school choice tuition brings in just $5,000 per student, "not as if we were a charter school" receiving full per-pupil funding.
