GROTON — The Groton Sewer Commission voted to abate $1,150 from a commercial building's sewer bill after an unexplained summer water-use spike. The building, which houses Bruno's, Wink Hair Salon and Luna Massage on a single shared meter, was billed for 106 units in July versus a typical average of about 19. Business Manager Lauren Quarry said investigators found no leaks, flooding or outdoor hose use, and usage returned to normal after crews installed a new leak-detection meter in mid-August.
"We don't have any clues at all," Quarry said of the spike's cause. The commission also voted to place a $10,000 transfer from reserves on the October 3 fall town meeting warrant as a budget buffer for the Sewer Enterprise Fund.
